چکیده

Introduction Current methods for the assessment of fracture risk in osteoporosis are primarily based on bone mineral density (BMD) measurements. The mechanical properties of bones, however, are not only related to its density, but also to its internal architecture and its tissue properties. A non-invasive measurement of bone mechanical properties that accounts for the in-vivo bone internal architecture would be of great value for improving the assessment of fracture risk and for the evaluation of the efficacy of drug treatments in osteoporotic patients. Accounting for bone architecture is a prerequisite for a better evaluation of cancellous bone mechanical properties. Recently, new microfinite element (μFE) techniques have been introduced to directly quantify cancellous bone mechanical properties as they relate to its trabecular architecture, which is accessed by high-resolution 3D magnetic resonance (MR) images (van Rietbergen et al., 1998). Recent studies demonstrated that such analyses can provide very detailed information about in-vivo bone anisotropic mechanical properties and can identify differences between osteopenic and healthy groups in cross sectional analyses (Newitt et al., 2001, 2001b). The purpose of this study was to investigate if μFE analyses based on in-vivo MR images can detect significant changes in cancellous bone mechanical properties during long-term longitudinal clinical studies that are aimed at evaluating the efficacy of drugs for the treatment of osteoporosis.

The Effect of Body Pump Training on Bone Mineral Density and Balance in Postmenopausal Women

Abstract Introduction and aim: Studies has shown that increases bone mineral density (BMD) loss after menopause in women; On the other hand, physical activity is an important factor in preventing osteoporosis and fractures associated with it. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of 6 months low-load very high-repetition resistance training (body pump) on BMD and balance in postme...

Evaluation of Frequency Pattern of Risk Factors for Decreased Bone Mineral Density in Postmenopausal Women Referred to the Bone Mineral Density Assessment Center of Al-Zahra Hospital in Isfahan during Years 2018 and 2019

Introduction: Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disease in which the internal structure and ability of bone to repair its daily damage is impaired. Menopause is a vital period that affects bone health, causing rapid loss of bone mass, which in turn increases the risk of fractures in postmenopausal women. The present study was performed to evaluate the frequency pattern of risk factors for dec...

Discrepancies in dose distributions due to age- dependent bone electron density in pediatric MRI-only treatment planning: A Monte Carlo study

Introduction: MRI-only treatment planning (TP) can be advantageous in paediatric radiotherapy. However, electron density extraction is necessary for dose calculation. Normally, after bone segmentation, a bulk density is assigned. However, the variation of bone bulk density in patients makes the creation of pseudo CTs challenging. This study aims to assess the effects of bone den...

Effects of Patellar Taping on the Patella Position in Presence of Quadriceps Contraction in 20-40 Year-Old Women With Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome Using MRI

Objectives: Patellar maltracking is the main reason for pain and disability in patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS). Patellar taping can considerably reduce such pain and disability. This study compared the effectiveness of physiotherapy exercises and kinesio taping on the patellar position in women with PFPS (mean age 32.2±1.12 years) by using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Methods: ...

Diagnostic value of CT and MRI of Temporal Bone in Cochlear Implantation Candidates

Background Cochlear implantation is an approved treatment which can be used to treat severe to profound hearing loss. Imaging before cochlear implant surgery is very important in decision making and assessing the temporal bone anatomy for surgery. We aimed to assess the diagnostic value of high resolution CT scan (HRCT), and MRI of temporal bone in candidate pati...
